About the Event

The Winter Solstice is the celebration of the return of the light. As the year waxes and wanes our sun grows either higher into the sky giving us our warm sunny summer days, or it sinks lower and lower still, allowing the cold and rest of winter to take hold.

Following the two equinoxes of the year is when we notice the shift of either more time in the night or more sun in the day. As we pass the Autumn Equinox, the sun sets earlier and the nights grow longer. Naturally as the earth turns and the seasons change the sun will reach its lowest point in the sky, and just like clockwork it begins to rise higher.

Ancient cultures, and society still today, celebrate the return of the sun with a festival of lights. In our workshop we will discuss this history in more detail of these celebrations as well as create our own versions of lanterns in anticipation of this season!

We will make:

-3 Glass Lanterns

-3 Paper Lanterns

-1 Wood & Paper Lantern

Investment $33
