About the Event
What is yoga? It is not asana (poses).
Long story short, yoga was a way to connect to the personality of the Divine… to know and rest in your true nature, to be free from suffering, and to know and experience the Source of all that is.
In this workshop, you’ll learn the 4 main paths of yoga, and how to pursue the path known as bhakti. Bhakti translates to devotion. Bhakti yoga encapsulates the ways in which we can practice devotion to our personal God/Goddess. It has the potential to turn every waking moment into a loving prayer of gratitude for the Divine.
Raja yoga includes strong emphasis of physical postures, known as asana, and it is leading the yoga movement in the West. The problem is that raja yoga was designed for renunciates, for people who lived in caves in the Himalayas, and who had all day long to devote to austerities, as they were removed from the material world. The raja yogis didn’t participate in a consumer economy, they didn’t have a 401K or drive an automobile, or spend any time on a smartphone. There are separate yoga paths for the folks who still engage with the world, and one of them is bhakti. This is the path for our season of humanity.
Bhakti yoga was intended to meet the needs of householders. People who had jobs, homes, and families. The practices are practical and meet you where you are, and as sacred literature states – bhakti-yoga is the sweetest of all the yogas and it produces the fastest results.
The workshop will include:
-The background of bhakti, awareness of the sacred texts that describe it
-Bhajans, sacred devotional songs
-Storytelling & sharing pastimes from different archetypes of the Divine
-Offer reverence to whichever archetype aligns most with our heart
We welcome all perspectives, all archetypes of the Divine. Masculine or feminine, personal or impersonal, mystical or otherwise. An open mind and open heart are prerequisites for this workshop.
Bring a journal. Seating and props will be provided. Bring your Divine archetype if you desire to add them to the evening’s altar!
